Tennis: Racket Customization - Whether preparing for tournament play, or just enjoying the game, Tennis Racket Customization is a must. A player needs a racket properly weighted and balanced to optimize performance and reduce the risk of injury. From String to Swing-weight, learn what's important in making your tennis racket fit your style - now, and as your game develops.
Tennis: Racket Weight - How heavy or light should a tennis racket be to optimize performance? Depends on how you play. The actual weight of the racket is really less important than the Swing-Weight - how heavy the racket FEELS when gripped by the handle as you play and as the racket is moving. As a general rule, the heavier the swing-weight, the better. Weight increases shock absorption, stability, and power. But, too much weight causes a player to be 'late ' for the shot or to fatigue during game play. In this video, learn how to customize racket swing-weight to match your game style.
Tennis: Choosing a Tennis Racket - Which racket is best for you? Depends on your swing and how you play. Do you have a short, compact swing? Or, do you take a fast, big, loopy stroke at the ball? In addition to swing style, consider head-size (the racket's not yours), weight, and balance. Coach Patterson discusses all these essentials, including a demonstration on determining the proper Grip Size to reduce the risk of injury and how to "Demo" a racket before making a selection. Patterson also explains the "Graduated Length Method" in choosing a racket for young, beginning players. It's critical that children learn using a racket that is proportionate to the child's size. Coach Patterson will tell you why in this video.
